SEO, Keywords, Digital Marketing for Creatives & Problem Solvers

SEO is one of those amazing fields where creativity and logic collide – and that’s exactly why I love it.

SEO for Creatives and Critical Thinkers

At its core, SEO is about understanding how people think, what they search for, and how to meet them there with meaningful content and smart structure. For creative professionals like me, that presents a fascinating challenge: how do you balance imaginative storytelling with constantly evolving technical standards?

You’re not just writing content—you’re organizing it in a way that both people and search engines can easily understand. That means being intentional with things like headings, internal links, page structure, alt text, meta descriptions, and title tags. Every small detail matters. Even something as seemingly minor as how you phrase a headline or whether you include descriptive alt text on an image can impact how well a page performs in search.

This is where creativity meets precision. You have to think like a copywriter, a UX strategist, a user, and a search engine all at once. And just when you think you’ve nailed it, the algorithms change, user behavior shifts, and your beautifully built landing page needs a new strategy. That constant need to adapt is what makes SEO both frustrating and endlessly interesting.

For small businesses, though, SEO often feels overwhelming. Most are stretched thin – handling customer service, managing staff, updating social media, keeping the lights on. It’s hard to carve out time and focus for something that doesn’t offer instant results. SEO is a slow build, not a quick fix, and that can be tough when you’re already wearing ten hats.

That’s why whoever you hire to handle your SEO should be someone who takes the time to listen. Someone who understands your business’s story – where you’ve been, what you stand for, who you’re trying to reach – and also takes the time to understand your buyer’s story: their needs, their behaviors, and what motivates them to take action. SEO done right isn’t transactional – it’s relational. It requires patience, strategy, and consistent effort. It’s not one-and-done. It’s an ongoing commitment in an ever-changing landscape.

That’s why small businesses need support from people who understand how SEO works in the real world-not just from a technical perspective, but from a human one. People who know that good SEO isn’t just about ranking – it’s about being seen, being understood, and building long-term trust online. And when it’s done right, it pays off – not just in search results, but in stronger customer relationships and sustainable growth.

The Ever-Evolving SEO Landscape

Search engine algorithms never sit still. Just when you think you’ve cracked the code, Google releases an update that reshuffles everything. It’s a moving target that demands constant learning, testing, and adapting. And I genuinely enjoy that. I thrive on research, keeping up with industry trends, and figuring out what works right now – not what worked last year.

But that’s what makes SEO such a rewarding space to work in. It’s not just about keywords  it’s about curiosity, empathy, and iteration. And when everything clicks – when you write something that ranks, converts, and genuinely helps the user – it feels like a small victory in a constantly moving game.

This makes SEO the perfect field for someone who’s both analytical and creative. You need to understand data and user behavior, but you also need to craft content, improve user experience, and experiment with strategy. It’s a space where your curiosity, your attention to detail, and your ability to problem-solve all get to shine. That’s the kind of work I love being a part of.

Digging Deeper: Why SEO Fuels My Curiosity and Career Goals

As my web and UX design focused career began to expand into the digital marketing space, I discovered that what really draws me to SEO isn’t just the technical strategy – it’s the why behind it all.

When a business reaches out for SEO support, they usually want to “get more traffic” or “rank higher on Google.” But what excites me is digging deeper: What are they actually trying to achieve with that traffic? Who exactly are they hoping to reach? What impression do they want to leave behind, and what action do they want their audience to take?

I love figuring that out. I believe that effective SEO starts by understanding the people behind the business and the people they’re trying to reach. When I start on a project, I don’t just want to know what keywords they’re targeting—I want to understand their goals, their challenges, and how their online presence fits into the bigger picture of their customer journey.

The Work Behind the Rankings

SEO isn’t just about ranking – it’s about resonance. That’s why I enjoy collaborating on detailed action plans, helping build out task lists and timelines that reflect a deeper strategy. I like supporting the process by documenting meetings, organizing notes, and translating high-level goals into tangible next steps.

Whether it’s researching a client’s competitors, reviewing site structure for accessibility, or auditing content for gaps and inconsistencies, I thrive when I get to take ownership of the behind-the-scenes work that brings campaigns to life. I find real satisfaction in helping things run smoothly. Not just for the sake of efficiency, but because it makes space for creativity and strategy to thrive.
